• Gangsters arrested for counterfeit euros
  • 04.09.2009
Twenty seven gangsters have been arrested for printing false euro notes in a sting action of 300 agents throughout Poland.

Police have been working around the clock for the last two days to arrest members of one of the largest gangs in Poland that prints and distributes counterfeit bank notes. It is estimated that the gang, who has contacts with Italian mafia, has successfully released a million bank notes in the denominations of 50 and 100 euro.

Two public prosecutors are collaborating on the sting action which resulted in the previous arrest of 61 people in April in the Wroclaw, southwest Poland, area, including 29-year-old Radoslaw B., a resident of Chelma who often travels between Poland and Italy.

The gang distributed the counterfeit notes throughout Europe by means of couriers who regularly traveled to France, Spain and Italy, distributing false bank notes along the way at gas stations, hotels and shop. Police think that the gang's core is out of Italy or Spain and have traced evidence to an Italian mafia ring from Naples.

Polish agents are working together with European police networks to shut the counterfeiting ring down. (mmj)
