• Early elections if Tusk wins
  • 28.09.2009

If Prime Minister Donald Tusk wins the presidential elections, Civic Platform will call early parliamentary elections.

Civic Platform (PO) hopes that Donald Tusk’s potential success in autumn 2010 presidential elections could raise the party’s ratings. Therefore, PO will call for early parliamentary elections, which would be held in March 2011, instead of autumn 2011.

According to Rzeczpospolita, elections to the Sejm and Senate will have to be held earlier anyway because, in July 2011, Poland will take over the rotating presidency of the European Union and, under such circumstances, a change of power in the country would not be preferable, following the political chaos observed in the Czech Republic in the first half of this year.

The opposition Law and Justice party (PiS) supports the idea of early elections while the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) has shown doubts about it. (mg/mmj)
