A young Pole named Jan Galek entertained Varsovians by walking across a taught line in the centre of Warsaw, thirty metres about the ground.
The line was strung across two buildings, five stories up, in the centre of the city with the palace of Culture and Sciences providing a background for observers to enjoy the three hour feat. Galek crossed the line bare foot, without any instrument to aid in balance, though he did use a safety line.
“The key is controlling one’s fear,” stated Gajek after having accomplished the task on Monday. “As a rule, one cannot look down but only straight ahead at the end of the line.”
Galek is known as Poland’s best slack- and high-liner. The young Pole broke the national record on 14 July 2007 after walking across a tight rope at 880 metres above sea level in Lost Arrow Spire at Yosemite National Park in the United States. (mmj)
