One miner has died in the Makoszowy colliery in Zabrze, Silesia, southern Poland, after he was hit by a metal stand during closing down of work of a coal seam.
The man was 43 years-old and married with two children. The accident occurred at a depth of 660 meters.
He is the 33rd victim of mining accidents in Poland this year. Twenty miners died as a result of a methane explosion in the Wujek mine three weeks ago.
Meanwhile, in another accident this morning, in the Bielszowice mine in Ruda Sląska, five miners suffered injuries as a result of a earth tremour. Two are said to be in serious condition. (mk)
