Jan Pinski, head of the public television’s news agency will receive 48,000 euro severance package as a result of being made redundant.
According to Pinski’s employment contract, which was granted to him by the former president of TVP, Piotr Farfal, he is entitled to three-month salary compensation for being fired and six-month severance package for not taking a new job at rival TV stations. Thus, Pinski will receive 200,000 zloty (48,000 euro).
“Pinski was rewarded with a rather significant golden handshake, taking into account that he held the post for only half a year,” one of TVP’s department heads.
Pinski was employed at TVP in February and even though he had no experience in TV journalism he was in charge of Wiadomosci, the main evening news program. It has been alleged that he used the program to promote Libertas, the euro-sceptic party set up by Declan Ganley, and people with connections to the ultra-conservative League of Polish Families. When Libertas was defeated in the EU elections, Pinski was promoted to the post of the head of TVP’s news agency. Then the former president of TVP Piotr Farfal - who also has connections to LPR - offered him the golden handshake.
Pinski’s significant severance package comes at the time of group redundancies at TVP planned by Piotr Farfal and the public broadcaster’s current dire financial position. (mg)
