Prime Minister Donald Tusk is expected to name new heads of his ministries today, following the resignations in the wake of the so-called Blackjack affair.
The three new ministers will be appointed to lead ministries of internal affairs, justice and sports. According to unofficial information quoted by PAP news agency, former justice minister Andrzej Czuma is to be replaced by the current deputy justice minister Krzysztof Kwiatkowski, while current deputy sports minister Adam Giersz is to replace Miroslaw Drzewiecki.
It is still unknown who will take over from Grzegorz Schetyna the post of the minister of internal affairs and administration. According to unconfirmed reports, the favourite is Jerzy Miller, head of the south-western Opole province, who met with PM Donald Tusk on Monday. Another possible candidate mentioned is the parliamentarian of the Civic Platform, Marek Biernacki.
Miroslaw Drzewiecki, Grzegorz Schetyna and Andrzej Czuma resigned after allegations made by the Anti-Corruption Bureau that ministers had lobbied on behalf of the gambling industry to not implement plans to raise betting tax to fund preparations for the Euro 2012 football championship, to be co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine.
