- Storms threaten coastal districts
- 14.10.2009
All inhabitants of the Zulawy island on Poland’s Baltic coast have been ordered to prepare themselves for evacuation, as high winds raise flood fears.
The Department of Crisis Management in Elblag say that the entire Pomeranian coastal region is in danger as winds reach 75 kilometres per hour with gusts of over 110 kilometres.
Poland is currently being battered by high winds and snow throughout the country and meteorologists warn that their strength will only increase as they day progresses.
Wind already brought traffic to a stand still in places in the north. The main No 6 road from Szczecin to Gdańsk has become impassable in places. (pg)
