- Electricity blackouts, gridlock in Warsaw area
- 14.10.2009
Over half a million people in Poland have had electricity supplies cut, media reports, after heavy snow falls.
The Warsaw region has been badly affected, and power failures have also occurred in Podlasie region, where up to 90,000 have been without power this morning.
Snow has brought down power lines, depriving hundreds of thousands of homes of electricity.
Dozens of fallen trees, road accidents and huge traffic jams have brought the capital of Poland to a grinding halt, say local fire brigades, who have been called out to hundreds of incidents in the last 12 hours. (pg)
