President Lech Kaczyński has formally appointed three new ministers to the Cabinet, after the resignations following the Blackjacj affair. Jerzy Miller is now Minister of Internal Affairs, Krzysztof Kwiatkowski takes over as Justice Minister and Adam Giersz takes on the crucial role of Sports Minister..
During the ceremony at the Presidential Palace, late Wednesday afternoon, the newly-appointed ministers swore the oath and President Kaczynski said: “I congratulate the ministers, who take on their new posts in a very difficult situation […] My statement on that will have to wait for another time.”
Kaczynski was referring to the turmoil currently inside the government, as it is rocked by new allegations, almost daily, of sleaze by the Anti-Corruption Bureau - an agency Prime Minister Tusk thinks is acting politically against his party.
Chief of the President’s Office, Wladyslaw Stasiak, said after the ceremony that President Kaczynski would speak on the crisis within the government “later this week” and in an “appropriate form”.
President Kaczynski commented via a statement on his web site on the sacking of the head of the CBA, Mariusz Kaminski, He said that he found the charges against him were “unsubstantiated” and that the accusations were connected to “irregular actions of those who hold managerial positions in the state”.
