• Drunken skiers left on the piste
  • 19.10.2009

The Polish government has abandoned a restrictive regulation, according to which drunken skiers should be fined.

The Ministry of Health has excluded drunken skiers from the so-called ‘anti-alcoholic’ bill, which means that they will not be punished with a fine of up to 600 euro if caught drunk on the slope.

The new prohibition bill was intended to improve safety on ski runs, where mulled wine and beer are considered a frequent cause of accidents. However, the bill was changed because neither employees of the Mountain Volunteer Rescue Service (GOPR), nor owners of ski lifts have expressed an intention to support the legislation.

Meanwhile, sailors or canoeists who are caught under the influence of alcohol will not be able to escape fine.

When the new bill comes into effect, it will not be possible to buy alcohol at swimming pools or sports centres. (mg/mmj)
