• Former sports minister fine, leaves hospital

CORRECTION: Contrary to earlier reports, Miroslaw Drzewiecki, former sports minister, did not have a stroke and has already left hospital in Florida. 

 

Drzewiecki came to the hospital in Miami for a medical tests after experiencing heart problems.

 

Reports earlier suggested that had suffered a stroke and was unconscious in an intensive care unit. These reports were incorrect.

Dzewiecki resigned recently as sports minister after allegations he was corruptly lobbying on behalf of the gambling industry in Poland. He is said to be traumatized by the accusations and decided to go to Florida to rest before testifying about the charges.

 

It has not been an easy time for Dzewiecki. On the day of his dismissal as minister, his mother died. (mg)
