Blind passengers will be able to use a series of new tactile maps to help find their way around Warsaw underground stations. The maps with raised lines and braille are to be accompanied by recordings says Michal Jakubowski the initiator of the project.
“The maps will provide knowledge so that blind passengers can, for example, get from the platform or the entrance to the ticket gate safely. They will know where to find stairs, toilets and shops and will also be informed about distances between the train and platforms,” he told Polish Radio.
As part of the pilot project, 130 maps of the Ratusz Arsenal station near the City Hall have been provided .They detail the station layout, including the location of the ticket office, manual gate, platforms, stairs, escalators, lifts and exits.
