Zofia Morawska, one of the most prominent figures in working with the blind in Poland, has turned 105.
Until two years ago, she worked on the administrative staff of the Centre for the Blind Children in Laski near Warsaw.
Fluent in English, German, French and Italian, she was in charge of contacts with similar institutes abroad and the sponsors. She has been associated with the Laski Centre since 1930.
A deeply religious person, she has not missed a daily mass since she was eight. She thought of entering a convent but, as members of her family say, she found it too difficult to be obedient to her superiors.
Zofia Morawski is the holder of the Order of the White Eagle, the highest Polish state distinction. She has also received many other distinctions for her charity work. (mk)
