A monument to victims of road accidents is being erected in Zabawa, southern Poland.
Situated next to a Catholic sanctuary, the monument will be 40 meters long and will represent a road.
Creator of the monument, Jacek Kucaba says bereaved people have to go down this road to find where the light is.
“This is a site full of pain. People come here trying to be freed of their pain or to experience of community of spirit with others,” says Kucaba.
The project also entails the creation of a care centre for road accident victims in Zabawa, where events marking the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims were held this year.
Poland’s road accident statistics are among the worst in the European Union. An average of fifteen people die on the roads every day.
Annual road traffic fatalities exceed five thousand. Reckless driving and poor condition of roads are listed among the main causes of deaths on the roads. (kk)
