History professor Krzysztof Michalek of the American Studies Centre at Warsaw University, died yesterday in a car accident near Wyszkow, central Poland. He was 54 years old.

The Rector of the Academy of the Humanities in Warsaw reported the death to news agencies on Tuesday.
 
Professor Michalek specialized in the history of the United States and was the author of numerous publications including Superpower: History of the United States of America, 1945-1992.

The historian was a leader in his field in Poland and made regular appearances on the media. (pg)
