- Tusk way out front in presidential race
- 27.11.2009
If presidential elections were held in late November, PM Donald Tusk would win both the first and second round by a wide margin, according to a GfK Polonia survey.
In the first round of elections, Donald Tusk would receive the support of 30 percent of the electorate, up from 21 percent last month.
President Lech Kaczyński would get 17 percent of the votes with leftwing candidate Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz in third place with 14 percent.
Andrzej Olechowski would get 5 percent Andrzej Lepper 3 percent and Waldemar Pawlak 2 percent in elections scheduled for next year.
In the second round, with just two candidates left standing, Tusk would beat Lech Kaczynski by 50 percent to 29 percent. And against Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz the margin would be 44 percent to 29 percent. If the run-off was between Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz and Lech Kaczynski then the leftwinger would beat the president by 46 percent to 29 percent.
The GfK Polonia poll was carried out on November. 19-24 from a sample of 1000. (pg)
