One person has been killed and one seriously injured at the National Stadium’s building site in Warsaw.
The man died after a lift fell from a crane, falling eight metres while transporting two construction workers. Rescue workers had to use special cutting equipment to free the men.
The injured man is suffering several fractures and will undergo surgery.
Police, fire brigade and building inspectorate are investigating the cause of the accident.
The National Stadium in Warsaw, which is being built on the site of the former Dziesieciolecia Stadium, will be the biggest Polish stadium to host the Euro 2012 championship. It will have a seating capacity of 55,000 and is scheduled to be finished in 2011.
The stadium will host the Euro 2012 opening match, quarterfinal and semifinal. (mg)
