Health Minister Ewa Kopacz
The national ombudsman, Janusz Kochanowski, has asked for
the prosecution of Health Minister Ewa Kopacz over the way the government has handled the swine flu epidemic and access to vaccines for patients with the A/H1N1 virus.
“We don’t have an effective system to register illness, we don’t have
a plan to fight against the pandemic, the government refuses to
release information and give access to the vaccine,” says Kochanowski.
The ombudsman added: “Of course we don’t
know whether the vaccine could have saved the patients’ health, we do
know however that they were not given a chance and someone has to bear
the moral, political and judicial responsibility.”
The ombudsman’s request has been filed with National Prosecutors,
which, in turn, will delegate the case to a regional or local
authorities. (jb)
