The popular spa city of Naleczow has been named one of Poland’s 100 biggest successes, achieved in the period that has elapsed since the fall of communism in 1989.
The whole list will be published at the beginning of next year on a website called SucccesfulPoland and the winners will be promoted at EXPO-2010 in Shanghai.
The ranking, which the southern spa town of Naleczow won, was created by web surfers, who took part in a nationwide contest aimed at popularizing the greatest achievements of Poland since it embraced democracy and switched to market economy 20 years ago. Proposals for the contest were entered by local council, city mayors, province governors as well as journalists and experts.
The competition was organized under the honorary patronage of cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, former President Lech Walesa and renowned film director Andrzej Wajda. (kk/mmj)
