• Winter takes grip in Poland
  • 14.12.2009

Overnight snow in Poland will be followed later in the week by temperatures falling to as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures dropped below zero in almost all areas during the night and roads are slippery and driving conditions difficult.

Around 10 centimetres of fresh snow fell in the mountain resort of Zakopane. In the high mountains snow is up to half a meter thick and authorities already announced the lowest degree of avalanche risk.

The maximum temperature today will range from minus 4 degrees in the Carpathians, minus 3 degrees to minus 1 degrees in the centre of the country to 1 degrees in the northwest,

But true winter will come later in the week, when temperatures will plunge minus 20 degrees in the Podhale region. (pg)
