Twenty percent of Poles think PM Donald Tusk should have more power and 13 percent think the position of President Lech Kaczynski should be strengthened, according to a new poll.
Asked by GfK Polonia pollsters which politician should have more power in Poland, both prime minister and president gained two percent as compared to a similar poll last month.
“It's a paradox, ” Jacek Kloczkowski, political scientist at the Centre of Political Ideas told Rzcczpospolita. “Poles complain about how they are governed then want to give more power to some to exert more influence on policy.”
The focus on next year’s presidential election is the reason why head of the Law and Justice party, Jaroslaw Kaczynski only got two percent of Poles thinking he should have more power.
Former President Aleksander Kwasniewski and former Prime Minister Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz were mentioned by eight percent as politicians who should have more influence on politics, even though neither currently holds office. (pg)
