• Election decision by spring, says Tusk

Prime minister Donald Tusk said he would announce, no later than mid-March, whether he will run for next year‘s presidential elections.

He told a press conference in Warsaw, Wednesday, that when he finally makes it, it will be the highly responsible decision of a Prime Minister of the Polish government, who still has much work to do.

Most analysts expect that Mr Tusk will run against the incumbent president Lech Kaczyński, who defeated him four years ago. Poles will be electing a new president in September 2010.

Meanwhile, in a public opinion poll by the CBOS Institute, Donald Tusk was named ‘politician of the year’ by 13 percent of respondents.

President Lech Kaczynski and foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski were selected by six percent each. As many as 34 percent of respondents were not able to name any politician, saying that they are not interested in politics: one in every four Poles thinks that no politician deserves such a title. (mk)
