• Experts protest security chief sacking
  • 04.01.2010

Ten experts from the Government Security Center (RCB) have resigned in protest at the sacking of their chief Przemyslaw Gula by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

Gula has been replaced by Border Guards captain, Marcin-Samsonowicz Gorski.

Media is speculating that computer firms have been putting pressure on the government to dismiss Gula. According to both radio RMF FM and the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna daily, thanks to Gula the Center was equipped with SARNA software which enabled dit, for example, to determine in real time the number of swine flu cases throughout Poland or the number of beds available in all hospital rescue wards. Before that, almost 700 institutions had to be contacted by phone to gather such information.

Computer firms reportedly offered such software for 600,000 euro. The Government Security Center obtained it for free from specialists from the Military University of Technology in Warsaw. The matter is being investigated by the Internal Security Agency. (kk)
