• Polish airports to hire private security
  • 07.01.2010

Security guards from private firms are to replace border guards at Polish airports.

Polish authorities want to reduce the amount of money spent on security at airports. The Civil Aviation Office suggests that instead of getting sources from the state budget, airports should hire security companies to protect passengers.

Border guards, who so far have been in charge of security at Polish airports, will only check passports and assist at body searches. Whereas security guards will check passengers at gates and X-ray luggage.

The new regulations are to come into force next year but the airports already protest against them. (mg)
