Departure and arrivals board at Krakow train station, Sunday, showing lengthy delays across the schedule.
Heavy snowfall fall has left thousands without electricity and has badly hit Poland’s train network and other transport services.
Around 110,000 homes are without power, says the Government Security Centre (RCB) with areas in the south and south west of Poland being the worst effected.
“The situation is slowly improving and energy services are restoring power supply,” said Jerzy Krystkiewicz at the Security Centre.
On Sunday, fire fighters evacuated around 1000 people from a hypermarket in Bydgoszcz in northern Poland where snow had built up on the roof to dangerous levels.
Despite the intense snowfall, all motorways and national roads are passable says the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways though driving is difficult in many areas.
Conditions are also difficult on the railways, particularly in the areas of Krakow, Czestochowa and Kielce. Snow has affected electrical connections so Polish State Railways is using diesel locomotives on some lines.
Forecasters predict no immediate snow bound Poland until the end of the month. (pg)
