Lech Kaczynski has not announced whether he will run for presidency this year but some say the incumbent has already started his campaign.
Tomorrow the acting President is going on a tour around Poland. The first stop on his way back to the Presidential Palace is the southern city of Katowice.
Presidential Minister Wladyslaw Stasiak, however, assures that Lech Kaczynski’s tour has nothing to do with the coming 2010 presidential elections. “Lech Kaczynski is not a prisoner locked in a golden cage. It is president’s duty to come out and meet voters,” Stasiak told Polish Radio (hear exclusive interview with Minister Stasiak here).
According to the Head of the Chancellery of the President, Lech Kaczynski will announce if he is going to run for presidency only in the spring. Experts on political image suggest that the incumbent president should wait with the decision until the ruling Civic Platform announces its candidate. (mg)
