• Dud bomb found at Warsaw National Stadium site

Sappers have found an unexploded bomb at the Euro 2012 National Stadium building site in Warsaw.  

 

The shell, 80 centimeters in diameter, had been buried on the edge of the stadium since WW II. It was not even discovered during the construction of the10th Anniversary Stadium (Stadion Dziesieciolecia) in 1955, which was located on the same site as the present National Stadium. 

 

The unexploded bomb has already been removed from the stadium.  

 

The National Stadium in Warsaw is due to host the EURO 2012 opening match, a quarterfinal and a semifinal of the championship. It will have a seating capacity of 55,000. Its construction started in 2008 and is to finish in 2011. (mg)
