Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, a member of the ruling Civic Platform, claims to be aware that opposition party Law and Justice do not want him to run for president.

“Civic Platform will take this into account while choosing its candidate for head of state,” said Sikorski, who recently made an appearance on two TV popular political shows.

Sikorski confirmed that he would run for president if Civic Platform decides to choose him as its candidate. The Foreign Minister also responded to the accusations of the Law and Justice MP Elzbieta Jakubiak, who said that “if he betrayed once, he will keep on betraying,” hinting at Sikorski the fact that the now-Civic Platform politician was once on Law and Justice’s list of parliamentary candidates.

Sikorski said that the Law and Justice is afraid of him and would prefer someone else to compete with their candidate.

After Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s decision not to take part in the presidential race, announced last week, the ruling Civic Platform is still in the process of choosing the best candidate. PM Donald Tusk recently said that both Radoslaw Sikorski and the Speaker of the Parliament Bronislaw Komorowski, had a fifty-fifty chance to become Civic Platform’s face in this year’s presidential elections.

Opinion polls give Sikorski greater chances to win but Komorowski is more popular within the party.

Poland’s presidential elections will take place in November of this year. (mg/mmj)
