• Government abandons internet “black list” idea
  • 18.02.2010

The government has abandoned the idea of creating a “black list” of web sites with dangerous content which should be blocked.

The Finance Ministry is to introduce a new version of the anti-gambling law, this time without a controversial motion to create a list of registered web sites in order to snuff out online betting.

The new government’s proposal was prompted by protests of internet users who claim that the draft bill violates the freedom of expression on internet.

Internet users sent a protest letter with 77,000 signatures to the President asking him to veto the amendment and they held an online debate with PM Donald Tusk on the issue.

The government decided that in the future it will consult internet users on legislation concerning internet, teleinformatic technology and media, including bills on the press law, copyright, as well as digital TV. (mg/jb)
