Famed Polish lobbyist Marek Dochnal might have worked for foreign intelligence.
The Prosecutor’s Office in the southern city of Krakow and the Internal Security Agency (ABW) have been investigating whether Marek Dochnal collaborated with foreign intelligence since 1980. Dochnal aroused the investigators’ suspicion when he gave a detailed and pictorial record of his life, including his contacts with the employees of the US consulate in Krakow.
Apart from spying, Dochnal, lobbyist and businessman, is suspected of other criminal activities.
In 2004, Dochnal was arrested on charges of bribing the former Democratic Left Alliance MP Andrzej Peczak, money laundering and using a false identity. He was released from detention in February 2008 due to a lack of hard evidence, but was banned from leaving the country. Later, the court decided that the lobbyist can travel abroad, so he went to Paris and Argentina. (mg/mmj)
