Poles are not particularly concerned with the environment and eco-activists are perceived as trouble makers, shows a report by the Institute for Ecological Development.

Sixty percent of Poles say that they respect what environmentalists do, 70 percent understand the necessity of looking for renewable energy sources and 80 percent describe their actions as pro-ecological.

But 80 percent of respondents cared only about the price of products while shopping, and only 5 percent interested if production processes meet eco-standards. Less than 2 percent of Poles check if a package is recyclable.

The survey shows a huge gap between what Poles declare and what they actually do in relation to the environment. Confused has grown over the reliability of global warming science after Climategate, when leaked emails from the Climate Research Unit in the UK showed scientists covering up evidence that did not fit their models.

The Polish green party has not gained much support in the country after twenty years of activism. (mg/pg)
