Lech Kaczynski

1200 delegates participating in the Law and Justice (PiS) Convention have adopted by acclamation a resolution supporting the candidacy of the current president Lech Kaczynski for re-election.

The delegates have thus officially asked the head of state to run for the second term. The resolution criticizes the representatives of the government who speak about the secondary role of the office of the president which, according to them, is merely about prestige. “Poland needs a strong president” reads the document.

The two-day convention in the western city of Poznan has been held under the slogan “Modern Poland in 2020”. During its first day the delegates re-elected the president’s twin brother Jaroslaw Kaczynski the leader of the party. Law and Justice’s new portal MyPis.pl was presented as well.

About thirty discussion panels have planned for the weekend meeting, including ones devoted to public finances, agriculture, reform of the health care system and Poland’s eastern policy. (di)
