Up to a hundred senior citizens are taking over eight Warsaw clubs today, as part of an action themed We, the Seniors are Here!
The undertaking is meant to provide an opportunity for the elderly and the youth to spend some time together and integrate, says Marta Białek-Graczyk, from the Ę Creative Initiatives Association. The seniors play the role of bartenders and waiters at the eight locations, whereas groups of seniors are hosting interactive initiatives, such as Esperanto lessons or a dancing event.
The action is to boost cross-generational communication. “There’s plenty of clubs and cafes that host cultural events, and they are always full of young people, says Marta Białek-Graczyk. “There is no multigenerational patronage, as these venues are not open to senior citizens. Elderly people are not really present in the public sphere, they do not have places where they can meet. We believe that cross-generational actions will always bring about interesting results.”
