A woman returning home on Monday night decided to use her in-car navigation system to direct her home: she ended up in a forest.
The 28-year-old was on her way home from the vicinity of Wolomin, a suburb of Warsaw, when the GPS system told her to ‘turn left’ down a forest lane.
After about 1.5 kilometres the woman got stuck in a muddy patch in the track, and called the police after attempts to set her car free.
Local police in Wolomin were sent on a rescue mission and after a few hours of hapless searching for the driver in distress, sent out a helicopter to find the woman’s whereabouts.
After an ordeal lasting a few hours the helicopter, equipped with thermal infra-red technology, caught sight of the stranded woman in a matter of minutes.
She was returned safely home, although without the help of her in-car sat-nav systems. (jb)
