Bronislaw Komorowski, winner of Civic Platform’s primary election for this year’s primary elections, has called on the Law and Justice party to name its candidate.
Komorowski, who received two out three votes cast by the party’s membership at the weekend, urged President Lech Kaczynski to declare whether or not he intends to stand in the elections. Civic Platform announced on Saturday that Komorowski beat Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski 68.1 percent to 31.5 percent.
The electoral campaign will start probably in June with three possible dates open for election day, from 19 September onwards.
Independent presidential candidate, Andrzej Olechowski, poured scorn on the primary election, pointing out that under half of Civic Platform’s membership cast their vote.
"Platform was once a very lively political environment. If today more than half of its members are not participating in its politics, that’s a an embarrassment to its leaders," said Olechowski, one of the founders of Civic Platform. (pg)
