• Primary presidential election costs party dear
  • 30.03.2010

the winner - Bronislaw Komorowski

Civic Platform, which elected its presidential candidate at the weekend, spent three times more on the primary than initially planned.

The cost of the primary, in which just 47 percent of the party’s 46,000 members actually took part, exceeded 600,000 zloty (154,000 euro), which almost equals the party’s annual budget.

In 2009, Civic Platform managed to raise 700,000 zloty (180,000 euro) from membership fees and donations.

Civic Platform spent almost 200,000 zloty (51,000 euro) on publication and distribution of electoral leaflets and a party brochure with ballot paper. The same amount of money was devoted to the organization of pre-election rally of both candidates - Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and the eventual winner, Speaker of the Parliament Bronislaw Komorowski. The pre-election night cost 150,000 zloty (38,000 euro) and a TV debate 50,000 zloty (13,000 euro). (mg/pg)
