The family, economy, Poland’s presidency of the EU and the constitution are four areas which Law and Justice wants to work with the three other parties in parliament.

Grazyna Gęsicka (left) who leads Law and Justice in parliament, presented their "4x4" package for cooperation across party lines today.

"In the atmosphere of the upcoming [Easter] holidays we once again offer cooperation to all parliamentary parties," Gęsicka said at a press conference in Warsaw.

The 4x4 package includes: "Four parties and four important areas of life that should be the subject of cooperation," she said.

Grazyna Gęsicka emphasised the need for changes in family law to encourage Poles to have more children to ward off a looming “demographic deficit”.

The party also wants to talk about creating jobs, to protect Poland from economic stagnation, and how to use six-month presidency of the EU next year to Poland‘s advantage.

Grazyna Gęsicka called on the ruling Civic Platform to create a Citizens Convention to debate the amendments in the constitution, including what powers the president and government should have.

Grzegorz Schetyna, leader of Civic Platform’s parliamentary party, reacted to the proposals by saying he was open to cooperate, if Law and Justice was serious.

"After Easter we will be talking quietly and seriously on areas that are worthy of cooperation," Schetyna told reporters. (pg)
