• Ha, ha, April Fool!
  • 02.04.2010

Clicking on a news story on the internet, or turning on the TV or radio yesterday in Poland drew readers, listeners and viewers into a minefield of silliness on April 1, All Fools' Day.

Polskie Radio reported that Robert Kubica  - who has just joined Renault after BMW Sauber pulled out of sponsoring Formula One racing last year  – would be switching teams, mid-season, and joining…Ferrari! The story claimed that the Italians looking for a new driver to replace Felipe Massa.

Kubica “has not confirmed, nor denied the story," claimed Polskie Radio.

Titter, titter…

Other stories included a rocket being launched from an airport in Bemowo [snigger] and TOK FM reported that the European Union plans to harmonize the colour of all taxis in each of the 27 nations.

The colors for each country had been decided by drawing lots. Consequently, from 1 January 2011 all Polish taxis will have to be coloured red!

Meanwhile, glosrydzyka.blox.pl reported that Father Tadeusz Rydzyk, the controversial founder of ultra-conservative radio Maryja, is not content with his recent expansion into mobile phones and aqua-parks. His latest wheeze, it was claimed, is to build his own Large Hadron Collider, just like the one in Switzerland which is looking for the ‘God Particle’.

And on and on it went, yesterday. At thenews.pl, we laughed and laughed until…we stopped. (pg)
