• Easter roads safer, but drunks still at large
  • 06.04.2010

Twenty seven people died on the roads over the Easter period in Poland.

Police recorded 230 accidents with 394 injured over the three days of the Easter break. “That‘s about 25 percent less than this time last year,” says police spokesman Robert Horosz.

The downside was that 1,800 drivers were caught drunk at the wheel, despite a high-profile police presence over the long weekend. The maximum penalty for driving under the influence of alcohol in Poland is up to two years in prison. (pg)
