A museum dedicated to the 1940 Katyń massacre is to open in Warsaw.
A formal presentation of the project and the logo of the museum took place at the Warsaw Citadel, Wednesday. The 70th anniversary of the murder of Polish officers by Soviet NKVD is the occasion to launch construction of the new museum, which is supervised by Director of the Museum of the Polish Army, professor Jan Cisek.
Professor Cisek said a competition had been organized which brought forward an excellent project to arrange this historic architectural site and at the same time exploit multimedial techniques.
The Katyń Museum will be part of the new Polish Army Museum. It will also combine a history park open to the public with multimedial presentations and archive and documentation sections. The Museum of the Polish Army has 24,000 objects recovered from the graves at Katyń. (ek)
