Anders H., suspected of being behind the theft of the Auschwitz gate sign last December arrived in Warsaw this afternoon by military plane.
The 34 year-old Swede is now being taken by air to Krakow where the application to extradite him from Stockholm was made. The PAP news agency says Anders arrived in the city at 17.30 CET.
“Because we can not stop the extradition, my client has accepted this and wants to stand before Polish investigators,” said the Swede’s lawyer, Bjorn Sandin.
Anders H. is pleading not guilty to the charge of initiating the theft of the infamous "Arbeit macht frei" sign above gate 1 at the Auschwitz museum on December 11.
The man was arrested on February 11 in Stockholm. After statements from two of the five Poles arrested for the theft, Krakow prosecutors applied for a European Arrest Warrant. (pg)
