Lech Kaczynski - 1949 - 2010

Financial Times correspondent in Warsaw Jan Cienski tells Polish Radio of his memories of President Lech Kaczynski, who died, Saturday, along with his wife Maria and many of Poland’s top political and military leaders in a plane crash in western Russia.

Jan Cienski says that the death of so many of the nation’s leaders - including much of the current opposition, based around the Law and Justice party - is an unprecedented tragedy.

Cienski describes Lech Kaczynski - who he interviewed three times in the last decade - as a “personally warm person” and an “enthusiastic conversationalist”, talking to journalists well beyond the scheduled time allotted for the interview. (pg)

Jan Cienski was talking to Michal Kubicki.
