The body of Maria Kaczynska, wife of the late President Lech Kaczynski, has been identified.
“We are 99 percent sure that the remains belong to First Lady Maria Kaczynska. The body was identified thanks to a wedding ring with an inscription, nail polish and distinguishing marks. We are still waiting for Maria Kaczynska’s brother to identify the body, however” said Health Minister Ewa Kopacz who participated in the identification in Moscow.
The coffin will probably be transported to Poland on Tuesday at midday, said Jacek Stasin from the Presidential Chancellery.
“Together they lived here [in the Presidential Palace], together they set off on their last journey, and together they died. They should symbolically welcome people who come to pay tribute to them together as well,” said Stasin.
The family of the presidential palace also want them to be together when the public comes to see them, he said.
The Chancellery of the President and the government think that there should be a common funeral of all 96 victims of the plane crash in Smolensk but the families of the dead will take a final decision. (mg/pg)
