Following the death of President Lech Kaczynski, acting president Bronislaw Komorowski said that he will announce the date the brought-forward presidential elections - which must occur before June 20 - on Wednesday.
On Monday, Komorowski consulted with parliamentary parties and asked them to come up with the most suitable date before Wednesday, when the parliamentary Seniors’ Assembly meets.
According to Poland‘s Constitution, the acting president must name the date of the elections within two weeks after the death of a president - by 24 April - and the ballot - originally scheduled for autumn this year - must occur within a 60 day period – i.e. not later than 20 June. (mg)
