President of Krakow Jacek Majchrowski ensures that the city can handle the organization of the presidential couple's funeral on Sunday.

Majchrowski told Polish radio Krakow that the city - a former capital of Poland and a major tourist destination - is used to dealing with large numbers of people coming to Krakow and has the infrastructure in place.

"Procedures have already underway and everything is going well," - added Jacek Majchrowski.

He said before the funeral he body of Lech and Maria Kaczynski will be flown by plane to Balice airport where a funeral procession will be formed.

A mass will follow at St Mary's Church, shown on big screens in the market square. After the service the coffins will be taken to Wawel Castle.

Commenting on the protests - mainly from those in Warsaw who wanted the presidential couple to be burried in the capital, Jacek Majchrowski said that many of Poland’s great and good are already buried in the Wawel castle. "Poland is divided and we will never be able to please everyone." (pg)
