Visualisation of President Lech Kaczynski and Maria Kaczynska tomb
The tomb of Lech Kaczynski and his wife Maria will be made of alabaster and have a simple form, governor of Malopolska region has announced.
“The tomb will be very simple but elegant. For the sake of the First Lady Maria Kaczynska, I wanted the tomb to look more subtle than the masculine tomb of Gen. Wladyslaw Sikorski,” said the tomb designer Marta Witoslawska.
The tomb will be made out of amber-coloured alabaster, installed on a red granite plinth. It will measure 240x154x69 cm and will have a rectangular shape. On the top of the tomb a cross will be engraved and on the side there will be the inscription: “Lech Kaczynski and Maria Kaczynska”.
The presidential tomb, which is being built by thirty sculptors from Jan Siuta’s atelier, will be placed in the vestibule of the crypt of one of Poland’s national heroes, Marshall Jozef Pilsudski, in the Wawel Cathedral in Krakow.
Cardinal Dziwisz, the Archbishop of Krakow, said that the crypt will also house a plaque with all the names of the people who died in the Smolensk plane crash.
It is being speculated that in the future a plaque commemorating all the murdered at Katyn in 1940 will also be housed in the crypt under Wawel Cathedral. (mg)
