• Funerals of the victims of the Smolensk crash continue

Monday sees the funerals of twelve of the victims of the crash near Smolensk.

 

The head of the Polish Olympic Committee Piotr Nurowski will be buried at the Powazki Cemetary in Warsaw, as will be Izabela Tomaszewska, the director of the Protocol at the presidential office, responsible for the image of the First Lady.


At noon Warsaw bid farewell to Field Bishop Tadeusz Ploski.and his secretary Jan Osinski. The head Poland’s national Bank Slawomir Skrzypek was laid to rest at the Powazki Cemetary in Warsaw. The funeral of Jolanta Szymanek Deresz, deputy of the Social Democratic Left Alliance and head of the office of former president Aleksander Kwasniewski is to be held late afternoon in Warsaw.


The capital also says goodbye on Monday to Ryszard Kaczorowski, Poland’s last president in exile, who died in the Smolensk crash .Following a mass in the Warsaw Cathedral the coffin with the body of President Kaczorowski will pass though the capital  and will be laid to rest at the National Temple of Divine Providence in Wilanow in Warsaw.


76 bodies of the 96 victims of the crash had been identified so far. (ab)
