Civic Platform’s candidate, and acting president, Bronislaw Komorowski is clear favourite to win Poland’s presidential elections, according to a survey by Gfk Polonia.

In a head-to-head against the late Lech Kaczynski’s twin brother Jaroslaw - should he decide to stand for election - Bronislaw Komorowski would receive 63 percent of votes. Jaroslaw Kaczynski would receive just 29 percent of the national vote.

If Jaroslaw decides not to stand and the candidate for the Law and Justice party was the popular MEP Zbigniew Ziobro Komorowski would win by 67 to 24 percent.

The Law and Justice party are to meet at the weekend to decide on who their candidate will be, after President Kaczynski died in the Smolensk air disaster on April 10. The first round of elections will take place on June 20 and the second round, when only the top two candidates from the first round will stand, will be on July 4.

The survey was conducted on 21 April among a sample of 1,000. (mg/pg)
