Three Vietnamese men have been arrested and four hundred potted hemp plants confiscated by customs officials in central Poland.
The plants could yield 300,000 zlotys (about 80,000 euro) worth of recreational drugs. The police detained three citizens from Vietnam on drugs charges.
“The plantation was organized in a two-storey house in a village near Ozarow Mazowiecki [central Poland]. Four rooms were specially adapted to ensure excellent growth conditions for the plants,”a spokeswoman for the Vistula Border Guard Section Agnieszka Golias told the Polish news agency PAP.
Two of the three Vietnamese citizens detained were reportedly staying in Poland illegally. “They had forged Bulgarian identity documents,” Golias said.
This is the second Vietnamese hemp (cannabis sativa) plantations liquidated by customs guards in the central Mazowsze province in the past few weeks. At the beginning of April 400 hemp plants were seized in a village near Warsaw.
Growing hemp in Poland carries a penalty of 6 months to 8 years behind bars. (kk)
