• Silesian guidebook - just for kids
  • 30.04.2010

A unique tourist guidebook addressed to kids has just been published by the Silesian Tourist Organization.

“Children often force parents to get out and do some sightseeing. We wanted to present a set of proposals for families with kids, which would be an alternative to spending free time in shopping malls,” says Agnieszka Sikorska, the organization’s head.

The book was written by Anna Dudzinska, a radio journalist, who was helped by her two sons to select places that are most likely to be attractive to children.

Each trip starts with intriguing questions, the answers to which can be found only on the spot, like: how many people does it take to embrace the oldest tree in a park in Rudy, how much did a medieval suit of armour weigh, why two popular children cartoon characters have four fingers? Descriptions of places worth seeing are spiced up with legends and stories. There are colourful cut-out and coloring pages for children.

The books asset are also excellent illustrations by Milena Michalowska.

Published in 100,000 copies, the guidebook is available for free at all tourist information centres in Silesia, south-western Poland. (kk)
